The Hoofer Scuba Club is a tremendous asset to the University of Wisconsin. Membership is open to students, staff and Union members, and you have to be a Hoofer member to dive. The Club is able to offer scuba gear and tank rentals at very reasonable prices. They use the area’s bountiful natural resources to hold local diving events and classes. Classes range from the very basic for newbies to the most challenging, including Divemaster, Rescue, Wreck, Night, and Ice Diving. If they don’t have a class that covers something you want to learn about diving, all you have to do is request it – this Club can help! The Club holds weekly socials so you can meet lots of other scuba aficionados and maybe learn something new. They schedule regular dive trips around Wisconsin and the Great Lakes area for “murky” dives. Some of these trips include camping or hotel stays, and charter dive boats for open water dives. A trip over winter break is typically planned to a sunny, “saltwater” location; previous trips have been to Hawaii (Oahu), Bahamas, Florida Keys, Belize, and Cozumel.
