Hoofer SCUBA Club Officers

Pondering the deeper meaning of Begin With Review And Friend. "What if I have no friends?"
President: Andy Kurth

The President of Hoofer SCUBA is responsible for coordinating the actions of the other SCUBA club officers, planning new events, and overseeing all of the different activities of the club. This may include chairing regular officer meetings, delegation of certain responsibilities to other officers, helping coordinate events with other officers, liaising with the equipment manager(s), trip officers, marketing officer(s), divemasters, instructors, and treasurer over issues of SCUBA classes, safety, fund raising, and equipment purchasing and maintenance. They should maintain a good relationship with the Hoofer Office and Hoofer Council, and continually maintain an up-to-date status with each. The President may be required to help out with any of the other club positions when required. The President should maintain positive and informative contact via e-mails and website posts with the Hoofer SCUBA general membership, and ensure that a positive and enriching environment is present at all Hoofer SCUBA events.

    VP Education: Melissa Manske

The VP-Education is responsible for determining dates for classes and reserving rooms/pools for the courses. This includes clear communication with our instructor to determine dates for courses and for ordering the appropriate amount of class materials for students. Classrooms and pool need to be reserved well ahead of time through MSCR, the Natatorium, and Central Reservations. He/She must try to attend all classes to take attendance of students involved in course. There also must be communication with Marketing to advertise upcoming courses and with Divemasters who are needed during pool and open water sessions. Communications with the treasurer are also important regarding rate changes for pool time. VP-Education must attend an AV course (1 hour) to use AV equipment in classrooms not in the Union.

    Treasurer: Joe Dillenburg
The Treasurer is responsible for maintaining the finances for the club and coordinating bill payments. Monthly finance reports must be verified for accurate incomes and expenses. Inaccuracies must be addressed to Hoofers immediately. The treasurer is also responsible for developing the club's fiscal budget every year (typically during the months of October through February). Assistance from other club officers should be coordinated to help with the budget. The treasurer must also continually update the officers of the club as to the standings of the club's finances. This helps in decisions regarding equipment purchasing/maintenance, cost of SCUBA classes, and membership.

    Secretary: Magdi Sebestyen

The Secretary is primarily responsible for keeping accurate records of the club's executive board meetings, protocols, and constitution. This includes making certain that the executive board obtains drafts of the meetings minutes for approval, and thereafter provide access to minutes for the general members of the SCUBA club. The Secretary may call upon another SCUBA member to perform duties is he/she is unable. Additionally, the Secretary is not required but encouraged to attend Hoofer SCUBA kickoffs and weekly socials.

    VP Murky Trips: Elizabeth Becker

The Murky Trips VP is responsible for coordinating club trips to local dive sites in an around the State of Wisconsin and Great Lakes Region. His/Her main focus is the fresh water diving available in this locale. This includes making contacts and reservations with dive boat charters, hotel reservations, camp sites, and quarry reservations. This also means he/she is responsible for leading trips to these locations, and therefore must abide by all Hoofer regulations pertaining to remote activities when on these trips. This includes, but is not limited to: filing paperwork, collecting participant money, and making sure that costs are covered.

As a trip leader, the Murky Trips VP must make sure that all trip participants are aware of, and follow, all local laws and regulations for the site locations. It is in the club’s best interest that the Murky Trips VP become familiar with as many local dive sites and operations as possible, so as to increase the range of diving options available for trips.

    VP Salty Trips: Position Open

The main task of the Winter/Salty Trips officer is simple: to plan and coordinate a fun, exciting, relaxing, and all around awesome dive trip for 14-18 Hoofer SCUBA members over winter break, preferably to a sunny, warm, and salty location. Some of the past trips have been to Hawaii (Oahu), Bahamas, the Florida Keys, Belize, and Cozumel.

    Divemaster: John Smith

The Divemaster is mainly responsible for all things regarding the club’s dive safety and protocols. This includes making certain that diving standards are followed during dive trips and club outings in general. These standards are outlined in the club's “Safe Diving Protocols (SDP)” and it is the responsibility of the Divemaster to update and change the SDP as necessary when changes reflecting our own protocols are issued from PADI. A majority of officers within the club should agree upon these changes to the SDP.

If Dive safety is in question, it is the responsibility of the Divemaster to issue warnings and notify the other officers as to the transgressions. The Divemaster should also be available to help out with classes as much as possible.

    Equipment Manager: Position Open

The Equipment Manager (EM) is mainly responsible for keeping the SCUBA equipment locker organized, assessing the condition of the club equipment (except boats), and ensuring that all the required equipment maintenance (scheduled or not) is performed. This includes keeping an inventory of the equipment and performing equipment maintenance as necessary. In particular s/he should arrange for annual tank VIPs and annual regulator servicing/rebuilding (as necessary).

Through the year, the EM must work with the other club officers to ensure that any equipment that needs maintenance receives proper attention (either in-house repair, service or removed from the inventory). The EM must also work with the other officers to resolve any incidents that might occur regarding rented equipment (e.g., if equipment is not returned, or returned in poor condition).

The Equipment Manager takes care of the equipment in the Hoofer SCUBA locker, suggests equipment to be replaced, or repaired, and generally shakes his/her head in disgust with our inability to keep things clean.
