THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AND THE TRADITION IN DIVING

Hoofer Dive Club is a departmentally sponsored activity at the University of Wisconsin. The Club is a non-profit educational and social organization designed to promote safe participation in recreational diving, provide education in the skills of safe recreational diving, and to foster an interest in diving by providing programs, services, trips and social events for its members. General membership in Hoofers SCUBA Club is relatively inexpensive, and is open to any member of The Wisconsin Union, as well as any UW-Madison student or staff member who is a certified diver. Participation in trips and classes, which are not required in order to maintain membership in the club, may incur additional expenses. Since 1978, Hoofer SCUBA Club has been bringing together University of Wisconsin-Madison students, staff and Union members who share a common interest in diving and exploring the underwater world. Members enjoy high quality classes offered through the club, regular club sponsored dive trips and affordable equipment and tank rentals. Members frequently travel as a group to local dive sites in and around the Wisconsin and Great Lakes region, and each winter break 14-18 members travel to an exotic location to experience salt water diving. Some of the past trips have been to Hawaii, Bahamas, the Florida Keys, Belize and Cozumel. Some classes offered are as follows: Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, Divemaster and SCUBA Review. Refresher courses and specialty classes such as Wreck Diving, Buoyancy, Ice Diving, Equipment, Navigation and Night Diving, are available upon request. In addition to classes and club trips, Hoofer organizes weekly socials and other events throughout the year to give its- members the opportunity to meet likeminded individuals with a common interest in diving. As a member of Hoofer, you are required to abide by the Diver-s Code of Conduct, as well as all applicable state and federal bylaws. The emphasis on dive and club protocols is to ensure the safety of all divers.
